Sheath Making

Class Description:

This workshop will cover patterning, fitting of the sheath, as well as designing sheaths from scratch.

You will also learn to stamp geometric or basketweave design of your choosing.

Leather selection, wet molding and more will be covered during construction.

Materials and Tools are provided but Students are welcome to bring your own tools like

Scissors, utility knife or well sharpened knife, skiver, or french skiver, edge bevelers #0 or #1, round punches, slicker, wing divider, rivet setting tools, hole punch, punching board, and mallet.

Class Instructor:

Abegail is a Master Leathersmith as of 2023 and the owner of a brick and mortar store Mabuhay Leather Craft (MLC) in Peoria, Illinois. Abegail has been awarded the Designer of the Year 2024 for Peoria Fashion Week and was invited back to be the opener of the 2025 Peoria Fashion Week show with her all leather outfits. She received multiple awards for Best in Show for several years from the PeoriaCon Cosplay competition. She loves sharing her knowledge about leather crafting! She has trained and mentored junior/local artisans in leather working, creating new opportunities for the community.

It is important for leather crafting to embrace artists to use leather and expand into new areas of creativity and to help keep this centuries old craft alive. She hopes that other leather smiths will join her on these new adventures!
